Whistleblower Policy
lp10.3 Whistleblower and Anti-Retaliation
Lawrence Prospera is committed to compliance with all applicable laws and all directors, officers, employees, consultants and volunteers should feel safe to report any ethical or legal concerns about Lawrence Prospera. that are reasonable and made in good faith without fear of reprisal. It is a violation of this policy for anyone, acting on behalf of Lawrence Prospera to retaliate against an individual who in good faith reports a possible violation of this policy. As part of its commitment to ethical and legal conduct, Lawrence Prospera expects its directors, employees and consultants to bring to the attention of the Lawrence Prospera Board President information about any ethical, financial or legal concerns about Lawrence Prospera or about known or reasonably suspected violations of this policy by other individuals. Financial concerns include, but are not limited to, suspected improper accounting, internal accounting controls or auditing. Good faith complaints should be made according to the following procedure:

10.3.1 Notification
The notification should specify in reasonable detail the nature of the complaint and the persons involved in and with knowledge of the violation. It should be accompanied by any supporting documentation. Notification should be made in writing so as to promote a clear understanding of the issues raised, but also may be made orally. An individual may notify the Lawrence Prospera Board President anonymously by depositing a written notice in the Lawrence Prospera Board President’s mailbox located at 34 West Street.
Because failure to report criminal activity can itself be understood to condone the crime, individuals should come forward with information about any such activity, without regard for the identity or position of the suspected offender. Failure to report knowledge of wrong doing may result in disciplinary action against those who fail to report.

10.3.2 Investigation and Confidentiality
Lawrence Prospera will investigate reports of violations, and all those involved are required to cooperate with such investigations. An investigation may in some circumstances mean that Lawrence Prospera cannot promise complete confidentiality, but it will act as discreetly as reasonably possible, providing information to individuals on a “need-to-know basis.” When Lawrence Prospera completes its investigation and if it concludes that there is a problem, it will promptly take corrective action.

10.3.3 Prohibition Against Retaliation
Lawrence Prospera will not discriminate against or discharge individuals for their reasonable, good-faith allegations or participation in any investigation or their reasonable good-faith efforts to ensure Lawrence Prospera’s compliance with the law, and it will strongly discipline anyone who threatens or retaliates against such individuals. Such prohibited retaliation includes, but is not limited to, termination, demotion, suspension, harassment, failure to consider for promotion or any other kind of discrimination. Individuals should act reasonably and in good faith during any complaint and investigation process.

Equity and Diversity Policy

Lawrence Prospera actively seeks to promote access, equity and diversity in our community, and to end discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, citizenship, veteran’s status, or disability. We have a strong conviction that diversity benefits everyone, and is not only compatible with excellence, but actually promotes it.

We pursue this policy in a variety of ways. First, a number of grants we make are specifically designed to promote diversity and increase access to services for historically disadvantaged groups. Second, we strive for broad representation on our own Board and staff, recognizing that without such diversity, our ability to achieve excellence would be seriously constrained. Finally, we encourage diversity in the boards, staff and service populations of the organization receiving grants.

This policy reflects our commitment to equal access and opportunity, and our belief that performance is greatly enhanced when people with different backgrounds and perspectives are engaged in an organization's activities and decisions making process. Organizations with diverse staffs and boards are in a stronger position to recruit from a varied talent pool, bring a wider range of viewpoints to decision making, and gain optimal public support for their activities.

In this spirit, those applying for grants are asked to provide specific information in the categories referenced above of their board, staff and service population. As a result of this information gathering process, we are in a better position to evaluate and aid efforts to achieve diversity and equal opportunity efforts which require vigorous and sustained attention at all levels of community life.
